All eyes were on Mary Foley, the Training Director at EHS International, as she took the stage at the AGM and National Conference of the ARCH Federation. Held at the Clayton Hotel in Limerick, this gathering brought together ARCH Federation members from across the country for a day of learning and collaboration.
Mary Foley, a dedicated Board member of ARCH, stepped up to deliver a crucial 90-minute presentation on Emergency First Aid. Her expertise, offered pro bono, demonstrated her deep commitment to the well-being of ARCH members and their communities.
With a focus on time-sensitive emergency situations, Mary’s presentation covered a spectrum of critical scenarios, including Choking, Heart Attack, Cardiac Arrest, Stroke, Epilepsy, Asthma, Diabetes, and Anaphylaxis. Her goal was clear: to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in moments of crisis.

The ARCH Federation, founded in 1976 by a group of parents in Dublin seeking social opportunities for their children with additional needs, had since grown to encompass 47 clubs in 15 counties. The event reflected the Federation’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive communities nationwide.
Highlighting the Federation’s dedication to holistic support, the Nature and Well-being Programme, made possible through funding from the Toy Show Appeal and Community Foundation Ireland, was a testament to their innovative approach to enhancing the lives of ARCH members.
In Cork, Mary’s dedication extends beyond her role in training. She has initiated two ARCH Clubs, catering to different age groups and ensuring inclusivity across generations. The Sunshine and Smiles Club welcomes children aged 8-18, while the Friday Night Club opens its doors to adults from 18 to 80 years old. Operating on alternate weeks, these clubs offer a supportive environment where members can engage in activities tailored to their interests and needs. Moreover, Mary’s involvement in the recent Arch federation training session provided a great experience and an opportunity to meet up and discuss the challenges ahead. Participants came together to exchange insights and strategies, reaffirming their commitment to making a difference in the lives of individuals with special needs.

As Mary took the stage, her presentation served as a reminder of the collective efforts and unwavering dedication of individuals and organisations working tirelessly to support and uplift those with additional needs.
