Food Safety Legal and Regulatory Advice Hub
Food Companies’ Legal Obligations
Food Businesses have a legal obligation to implement a Food Safety System based on HACCP and using Critical Control Points (CCP) to control risks. Similarly, food business must maintain this system, adhere to the standards laid out by the FSAI and train staff accordingly. EHS International works with food companies to build a bespoke HACCP system from concept to implementation. Whether a start-up company devising a new system or an established company looking to improve its processes, we work with your team to ensure the system adheres to the current government legislation. We will analyse your production process and establish your Critical Control Points whilst developing a HACCP flow system to suit your business’ requirements.
Pre-packed Food Product Label Compliance:
The regulation EU1169/2011 (FIR) outlines that all prepacked food products must have nutritional information declared on label. Ingredients must be listed with allergens highlighted and Quantitative Ingredient Declaration (QUID). It is obligatory for all food companies that their product are labelled correctly. In-accurate labelling can lead to a product withdrawal; a product recall; reputational damage and/or legal action.
Here at EHS International The Food Hub, we generate label content for new products that are being launched to market, based on your recipe.
We calculate the correct ingredient breakdown for your label; calculate the health claims that you can make on pack and the allergen information that you are obliged to declare.
In addition to analysing new products, we also review label information on existing products to ensure that the current declarations adhere to the relevant legislation. We ensure that the information detailed is correct in terms of nutritional declarations; ingredient and sub ingredient listings, allergen declarations and health claims.
Health claims and allergen declarations have becoming an increasingly important part of a Food Safety Programme. With an increase in the occurrence of allergic reactions, it is imperative that a Food Safety System and label declarations are correct and fully declare the allergens present.
Whether you are devising menus; preparing product for sale at a deli counter or preparing product labels for sale on shelf, we ensure that you are complying with your legal obligations.
