The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety from EHS International is one of the most widely recognised qualifications in the world. It gives managers, supervisors, and professionals the skills and confidence to manage workplace risks, improve safety performance, and build a strong safety culture.

The NEBOSH International General Certificate is divided into two core units:

Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety

  • The foundations of health and safety management
  • Managing risk: people, processes, and systems
  • Legal frameworks and enforcement
  • Monitoring, auditing, and continual improvement

Unit NG2: Risk Assessment

  • Identification and control of workplace hazards
  • Physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and psychosocial risks
  • Preparing and submitting a practical workplace risk assessment

IG1 ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE

  • Assessment type: Open-book examination (OBE)
  • Format: Scenario-based questions, completed online within 24 hours
  • Purpose: To test theoretical knowledge of health and safety management
  • Requirements: You can use your course materials and internet sources, but you must demonstrate your own understanding and interpretation; you cannot copy content
  • Interview: An authenticity closing interview will follow

Unit IG2: Risk Assessment

  • Assessment type:

Practical risk assessment project

  • Format:

A practical risk assessment completed in your workplace or a public space over a 14-day period, followed by a 3-hour assessment window

  • Purpose:

To assess your ability to apply health and safety principles to a real-world scenario

  • Requirements:

Involves identifying hazards, evaluating risks, and proposing an action plan

Delegates who successfully complete the course and assessment will receive a certificate approved by NEBOSH.

Familiarity with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the General Applications Regulations. The Regulations were first introduced in 2007 under Statutory Instrument Number S.I. No. 299 of 2007, which was amended by:

Together all these Regulations are known as the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 to 2020 and are available to download from the Irish Statute Book.

Some understanding of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013 would be an advantage

A good command of the English language is required for this course especially for interpreting regulations, preparing safety documentation and communicating effectively on site. For learners who do not speak English as a first language we provide an initial language assessment to determine of additional support is needed for understanding course materials and assessments in English.
