Effective fire safety in buildings depends not only on alarms and suppression systems but also on structural measures that prevent the spread of fire and smoke. Compartmentation is a key element of passive fire protection, yet it is often neglected or poorly understood during fire risk assessments. 

When compartmentation is compromised, even a small fire can rapidly affect entire buildings. Poorly sealed service penetrations, altered layouts, or insufficient fire stopping allow fire and smoke to spread far beyond the point of origin, placing lives, business operations, and property at risk.
