Reflecting on an Incredible First Year at EHS International
2024 was the first full year of operations for EHS International, the new and rapidly growing Chris Mee Environmental Health and Safety single source organisation.
I must start off by paying tribute to our management, staff and contractors here at EHS International. I am very proud of every one of you and to see the great achievements, both strategic and operational, that you have made in such a short period of time.
We are looking forward with great confidence and enthusiasm to moving into 2025. It is appropriate that we also look back and celebrate some of our highlights of the past year.
Appointment of Paul O’Regan, Fire and Rescue Director.
We were delighted to welcome Paul O’Regan as the Fire and Rescue Director at EHS International in January. With a career spanning over 32 years in the Cork City Fire Brigade, Paul brings unparalleled expertise to the team. In this role, he is leading a team of over 30 instructors. He has extensive experience in national and international training for fire and rescue services. He will enhance EHS International’s programmes and emergency response strategies, and provide the highest standards in health and safety services to our clients
Launch of the Dublin Offices at Fashion City, Ballymount.
July marked the opening of our new offices in Ballymount, Dublin, reflecting our ongoing commitment to advancing EHS standards across Ireland and beyond. The state-of-the-art, 10,000 square-foot facility features a comprehensive training centre, collaborative workspaces, and over 60 on-site parking spaces. From this strategic location, we provide a wide range of services, including specialised EHS training, consultancy, and occupational health services to our growing list of clients in Dublin and Leinster.
Acquisition of The Dennison Training Academy
In August, we acquired The Dennison Training Academy, renowned provider of advanced mental health training and consultancy services, founded by Louise Dennison O’Shaughnessy. Louise has a strong reputation for delivering excellent bespoke mental health services nationwide.
Launch of the Fire Simulation & Training Centre
We officially opened our new €3 million Fire Simulation and Training Facility in Little Island, Cork in October. This centre establishes a new benchmark for fire safety training nationwide. Not only will it provide advanced fire and safety courses, but it will also highlight the fire risks posed by lithium-ion batteries, providing industry-leading training for this unique and challenging risk. Our Little Island facility is also home to our Research & Development centre, where our expert team is undertaking cutting-edge research and exploring breakthrough solutions using AI and robotics.
Awards received by EHS International in 2024
It was very heartening to see our team and our work recognised at several awards ceremonies over recent months. Our Marketing Team was recognised at the Cork Chamber Digital Marketing Awards, nominated for Best Use of Digital by a New Business and winning the Best Use of LinkedIn for Business in the 20 or more employees category.
I was thrilled to see Derry Cronin, our Business Development Director, was named Cork Business Ambassador, and our Chair, Alf Smiddy, was honoured with the Chairman’s Award at the Rémy Martin Business Cork Awards 2024. Both are very well-deserved awards.
Personally, it was an incredible honour to be named Businessperson of the Year at the Little Island Business Association’s annual awards. We are proud members of the LIBA, a fantastic organisation that promotes the locality in which our Fire and R&D Centre is based.
Free Share Scheme for all EHS Staff and Contractors is now imminent
EHS International is delighted to announce that we will shortly commence the first issue of free shares to all qualifying staff and contractors. In short, all staff and contractors working with EHS International for a minimum period will be issued with free shares subject to terms and conditions. This process of free issue of shares will continue annually to all existing and new staff and contractors based on their support of EHS and inputs to EHS during the previous 12 months. We hope to welcome many new staff and contractors to EHS and to our Free share scheme during 2025.
This is the unique EHS International way of rewarding all new and existing staff and contractors for their support and inputs into our success during the previous period. This allows all involved in the growth of the company to share in the increase in value of EHS International. While there is a tax due on the exit of the plan it is at Capital Gains level and not full income tax level.
